We know what you’re thinking… No, this is not like Luwak (though this might taste better) nor did it come from any elephant! The name for this locally-grown kopi is attributed to size; it’s larger and longer than your common Arabica beans. Also known as the Big Fruit Coffee, this unique Malaysian kopi gives out bold flavour and mesmerising aroma loved by many for generations. Kopi kaw Malaysian style, ini barulah lokal!
Unfortunately, the unique and rare Elephant Bean as a species is on the brink of extinction.
The Elephant Bean’s coffee cherry has at least 3 times lower economic value due to its significantly lower yield. Moreover, Elephant Bean coffee is more difficult to roast than any other coffee variety due to its irregular shape, making it prone to wastage. This is where our highly-skilled roasters come in to produce only the best batch of Kopi 434’s specialty Elephant Bean kopi for the masses.

The Elephant Bean coffee does not refer to the coffee found in the rectal discharge of elephants! Elephant Bean Coffee was coined to the coffee grown in Malaysia (commonly known as the Big Fruit Coffee) because its seeds appear much longer than the common coffee Arabica. Akin to the elephant-the largest terrestrial animal with the longest teeth among all animals, Big Fruit Coffee is the largest among it's other coffee peers and has the longest seeds, which earns its reputation as the Elephant Bean Coffee.
Unfortunately, Elephant Bean as a species is facing the treat of extinction.
The elephant Bean Coffee cherryy has at least 3 times lower economic values, due to its significantly lower yield. Moreover, Elephant Bean Coffee is difficult to roast than other coffee varieties due to its irregular shaped, thus skilled labour is required to prevent unwanted waste of raw coffee.
As a result, the Elephant Bean plantation was superseded by the oil plantation, which brings higher economic values.
